SeaO₂ Receives CIEIF Grant to Advance Community Engagement
At SeaO₂, our mission has always been to develop Direct Ocean Carbon Capture (DOCC) technology that not only removes CO₂ from the atmosphere but also ensures ocean health and responsible deployment.
As our technology scales from lab to ocean, we recognize the importance of understanding and involving the local communities around our deployment sites. That’s why we’re proud to share that SeaO₂ has received the CIEIF grant of $75,000 to further our work on environmental impact assessment, predictive ocean modeling, and community engagement for our upcoming field test in Scheveningen Harbor — Europe’s first commercially developed, standalone DOCC pilot. This small-scale field test represents a critical step forward in demonstrating the feasibility and scalability of our technology. The data we collect will inform future designs and support the development of a larger North Sea field test, bringing us closer to validating DOCC’s potential.
Responsible marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) is at the heart of our mission. We are committed to ensuring that any potential deployment follows strict monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) protocols that respect ocean health and maintain public trust.
Through the CIEIF grant, we are deepening our focus on community engagement, working closely with local residents and regional stakeholders to ensure that their voices shape our work. Together with our partners, we aim to pioneer durable mCDR and earn the confidence of the communities around our deployments.
