This week, the 9th CO₂ Value Europe Days concluded successfully in Rijswijk, marking another milestone in Europe’s journey toward circular carbon solutions. Hosted by TNO, Fluor Corporation, and CO₂ Value Europe, the two-day event brought together innovators, researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders for inspiring discussions, structured networking, and a vibrant social program — all designed to strengthen collaboration across the Carbon Capture & Utilisation (CCU) community. 💡
One of the highlights was the mini exhibition, where members and partners showcased cutting-edge technologies driving the CCU transition. SeaO₂ was proud to present how our Direct Ocean Capture (DOC) process provides captured CO₂ as a feedstock for concrete mineralisation, enabling durable carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits — and as an input for alternative fuels such as sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and green methanol. ⚗️🌍
Our CTO, Maarten Oudshoorn, and Founder’s Associate, Zamin Syed, joined insightful discussions on the future of CCU in the Netherlands and across the EU, exploring the policy pathways needed to accelerate deployment. We emphasised the crucial role of the ocean as a carbon reservoir, and the importance of recognising Direct Ocean Capture alongside Direct Air Capture in CCU frameworks — particularly in regions with limited land availability and vast coastal potential. 🌊
As Europe moves toward integrating carbon removal and utilisation into its industrial and climate policies, it’s clear that DOC can bridge the gap between CO₂ removal and CO₂ reuse, helping to unlock both environmental and commercial value.
