Accelerating carbon dioxide removal in South Holland with Platform Zero
This week, Platform Zero organized a pivotal Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) session alongside Skytree, TNO, and the Provincie Zuid-Holland to help shape the future of carbon innovation in the region of South Holland.
The discussion centered on the design of a world-class Fieldlab, which we see not simply as a facility, but as an ecosystem. To make that vision a reality, we focused on four critical pillars: defining what success looks like for regional carbon dioxide removal, identifying the regulatory and technical barriers in the way, mapping the physical and digital infrastructure needed for scalable solutions, and building strong partnerships between startups, scaleups, corporates, and government bodies.
One thing became especially clear during the session: combining carbon capture and utilization (CCU) with carbon capture and storage (CCS) is essential. Bringing these two approaches together creates opportunities to turn captured CO₂ into a resource while also ensuring long-term climate impact.
It was inspiring for us to bring together such a diverse group of participants, from startups to established industry leaders and government representatives. We would like to sincerely thank all contributors to the session: Skytree, TNO, Fieldlab Industrial Electrification, Provincie Zuid-Holland, Gemeente Rotterdam, Port of Rotterdam, InnovationQuarter, Netherlands Enterprise Agency, FME, Paebbl, Zero Emission Fuels, everox, Carbyon, EBN B.V., and Division Q. Along with these partners, we’re proud to be pushing CDR forward in the Netherlands!
